Hi guys, I’m 24 and going to be moving to the Sussex area in the new year and I would really like to make some friends, I would especially love to meet other autistics. Does anyone know how to go about this? I’ve looked online at support groups in the area but i can barley find anything.
Thanks for your time reading this
Hello Fen,
Try not to worry too much. You're moving to an area where there of plenty of opportunities for outdoor pursuits. You'll meet plenty of people with your mindset.
Around this time last year I connected with someone near me (Birmingham) through a Twitter search tool. It allowed you to search bios.
I literally searched 'autistic Birmingham', came across a few and reached out. One of those developed and I got to meet up with them a few months later.
I hope this forum helps you.
Hello,
I’m in Sussex. I don’t know of any face to face support groups. Maybe have a look on Facebook? I haven’t looked on there as have not disclosed my diagnosis to people yet and don’t want other people I know in real life see me join any groups or anything. Let me know If you find anything. I’d be keen to know more! Sussex is a big old place though! :)
Thank you!
Hello! Welcome to your autistic community!
Heya! I’m 26 and near Sussex if you wanna chat :)
thank you so much for you advice
Hi! Trying online groups is a good place to start and also having a look for an autism groups and events in your local area. NAS do a meet ups in my area, I've never been to one but I expect you would meet people and potentially make friends if you went to one of them.
Oh. great idea, i hadn’t thought of that, thank you
Thanks, I actually formed my own local autism social group from the autistic friends I made from the online group. I used to find this forum an absolute saviour in my first year ir so following diagnosis.
That's a really good idea. I've not tried any online groups but when I was at school I tried after school clubs.
I like this site it's an easy way of communicating without the stresses you get in the real world.
When I was first diagnosed back in 2018, I found autistic friends by asking on one of the UK wide autistic facebook groups to see who was local to me.
