So I'm having a flare up of my Crohn's disease today. Had really bad stomach pain and diarrhea all night and all today (it's now 3pm).
Yesterday, I went to a friend's and was lucky enough to use their swimming pool. A real one off.
However, I noticed last time I went to the swimming baths I had a flare up of my IBD the day after.
Do I find swimming particularly stressful do you think? Does anyone else experience this bodily response to swimming?
It could be good related, but just seems so coincidental!
I'm so frustrated, I just want to get on with life but my body always reacts to things and makes me incapacitated
What happens when you go into cold space or cold water for example?
Having autism makes us more sensitive to certain things so it could be that you're hyper sensitive, which would explain a lot.
I'm hypersensitive to the cold and my immune system the same. I don't do as well in cooler weather.
Just surprised at how sensitive. I'm sensitive to noise, light, and pharmaceutical treatments (have to massively reduced doses), but hadn't thought a quick dip on a swimming pool would do anything
Chlorine aside, swimming pools can be a little... unhygienic. I believe I heard that the chlorine smell is the reaction that cleans the water, so if you smell chlorine it means the job isn't finished. So it might be the general whatever in the water that you're having a bad reaction to because your body is especially sensitive rather than the chemical.
Wow really!?
I once was in a pool in Italy, it was 30-35°, and I was I'm for about 5 mins. I got out shivering and went into full cold shock. Had to wrap up in bed and try to come back to normal temp.
5 mins later there was a huge hale storm. Hadn't rained all week!!
5 mins later it stopped, and I was fine.
Most bizarre
Yes I think it's highly likely the trigger here.
Just breathing in the chlorine will be enough to be honest. I've found that before.
Tha is guys, think it might be that. I didn't drink any particularly, but may have ingested a bit. This happened before so perhaps, being as I am very sensitive to chemicals, it could have triggered me
I'm so sorry you've had this.
I think it is something to do with chlorine, maybe you accidentally swallowed some? But when I've been to the swimming pool before this happens to me too.
I think it's why I stopped going in the end.
Like you I thought this can't be a coincidence every time.
There may well be a connection with chlorine and IBS triggering:

This appears only anecdotal however.
