Hi, I'm getting an NHS assessment for ASC on Monday. I am nervous and not sure what the social protocol is. Do I need to prepare or just show up? I have social anxiety so this is also making me nervous. I'm 41 (could pass for 36 or 20 something according to colleagues), but obviously not a child or youth anymore.
Thanks. It is good to know I'm not alone in this journey.
Be yourself and try not to worry, they are professionals and will support you and put your mind at ease. There's a lot of people diagnosed as autistic now, young and old. Interestingly it looks like there's more older autistics here than younger. I hope it went well for you. Let us know how you got on
Not mild, different, in a lot of ways level1 autism means a whole lot more long-suffering.. Im glad you got your diagnosis..:)
Hello. I was diagnosed at 40, so it's a late slightly weird life affirming experience I know as well. It's been 18 months since and I'm still coming to terms with it, but I'm doing so quietly, on mywn, with some family support. There is no need to feel like you need to do anything but process this for yourself, unless you want to. So take your time and, lean on us! We are always here for you
I am learning this. :) Diversity good
I had a less than helpful meeting with a nurse way at the start of thinking of going for diagnosis. They just said it was my social anxiety. Then we moved house and therefore GP at the end of lockdowns and a simple econsult led to a referral. It was at this stage that I discovered that sympathy and kindness you talk of. The doctor was relaxed, casual, chatty. He also said it was a difference and a condition rather than a disease or disorder. He pointed me in the direction of Autism Initiatives. I had my first 1:1 and that man was lovely also.
Yeah it has definitely been a relief.
A mix of feelings, but it all makes sense now.
Hi I’m in my 30s and got diagnosed late. I was exactly feeling the same way as you. Nervous. However, I think in the end it was just a relief for me to get a diagnosis.
Don’t worry. Everything will be alright.
I was assessed 2 weeks ago and as a 51yr old it came as a shock that I was going to go through this. The interview I had was handled sympathetically and the people assessing you will have been through hundreds of these with hundreds of people with anxiety such as yourself. Good luck with everything.
How are you feeling? X
Welcome to the club Pax, we are a large and diverse group of all ages.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago aged 67...... so you're just a youngster !

So had assessment today and confirmed it as what was once called aspergers. So mildish autism spectrum condition.
The Assessment is not a test.Just be yourself so they can properly Diagnose.
