Learning to drive

This is so stressful. I've only just booked my first lesson and I'm already feeling stressed and overthinking everything! I love the idea of driving no more walking in the rain and having to use taxis. But the test seems impossible and then I've got to do the theory tests first... oh why can't I just use my provisional to drive? Lol *sobs*. The earliest he can fit me in is December for my first lesson. I'm the only one out of my brothers who still hasn't got a licence so I'm hoping I'll be OK and pass before long.

  • Like any new skill you will learn.
As for your Test let me tell you what my instructor said..
" When you take your Test, you have Automatically passed, you just have to keep your nose clean "
    Reverse Psychology. Slight smile

  • You'll get there, don't worry. It can be slow going at times, but you'll get there.

I'd HIGHLY recommend that you learn on an automatic. I know it means you can't drive a manual, but that doesn't matter, you'll still be able to drive and you'll have a lot lot lot more headspace to think about *driving* not gears and clutches.

I took an accidental 14 year break from driving and re-learning was tricky but my confidence is much better now and I'm branching out a bit more.

  • Take your time, go at your own pace. There's no rush. If it takes you a year then great if it takes 6 years that's fine. It took me 5 years and 3 attempts in total. Good luck.

  • And another: If you stall sideways on a hill, with a lorry travelling down it, your instructor is unlikely to take your hypersensitivity into consideration whilst he is shrieking..

  • Here’s another: The one-way intercom will only receive transmissions..

  • Here’s an observation that I’ve made, you may find it helpful: Don’t go around the roundabout more than three times, even if you have a logical-feeling reason, it will draw the ire of your instructor..

  • funny enough on motorbike you can infact use your provisonal license to ride your bike with L plates on before you pass any tests.

although thats likely due to the fact motorbikes are singular and you cant just have a person in it controlling it with you.
and bike tests are longer and harder, you have to do like 3 stages of a CBT test before you even do a theory or the main test and the CBT is harder than the main test and you get failed constantly and it costs you thousands in redoing it 100 times over because the instructors make their main income that way.
