Favourite animals

Just wondered what everyone's favourite animals and living creatures were? As I find animals seem a lot nicer than humans most of the time

I love hippos. There are 3 hippos at the zoo I go to and I love to just sit and watch them walk around their grass and splash in their pool. I find it funny how hippos spray their poo with their tail too. I love rhinos as well, there is something so peaceful about rhinos. As soon as I start looking at them I feel at peace

My favourite thing to do is feed the ducks. I love sitting by the river watching the ducks, geese and swans and feeding them. It clears my head more than anything and makes me so happy. I find I have real connection to them too, they eat out of my hand. I feel like they are my friends

  • I love babirussas! We used to watch secret life of the zoo, about Chester zoo, on chanel 4 and they had babirussas there. It must be so much fun working with them

  • My favourite animals are wolves and owls.. Both I think are adorable and are so interesting. I like foxes as well.

I also love lions, tigers and penguins :)

I'm also a big fan of horses. My uncle and aunt had a farm a few years ago and they had horses, so cute I used to do riding and I loved that.

  • Yes - I cannot bear (forgive the pun) to see any animal in stress when wilfully imposed  by idiot humans.  It makes me very, very distressed.

  • I used to work with a type of pig called 'babirussa'.  They look particularly terrifying but are really very sweet natured and have lovely personalities.

  • Absolutely, or worse putting them in situations purely to show on social media and everyone thinking it’s hilarious when the dog is clearly under distress.

  • If you can just "be", standing in the presence of one or more wild deer - it is simply magical and a huge privilege in my opinion.  Happened to me a few weeks ago - we were about 50 foot from each other and just stood for about 5 minutes.

  • Cats, all types, domestic and wild. Of the big cats, my favourite would be the tiger. I'm not keen on white tigers as they are largely an artificially bred human creation, plus they are not as aesthetically pleasing as the black and orange wild type.

I also have a soft spot for deer. At five years old I fed a stag grapes in open parkland in Belgium, I remember the antlers curving above and around me. I was entirely unafraid, though my parents were a bit concerned to put it mildly. When the grapes were finished the stag just lifted his head and quietly backed away.

  • They are fascinating creatures.  Normally, one "brave" one will come and greet me - and then stay.  Then the others will come over, 1 by 1, then 3 by three.....all jostling for the nearest spot to smear me in their nose juice.   Then, after (invariably way too long for my schedule to allow) I will leave.....and equally invariably, if they can, they will follow me along their field boundary until I'm out of sight.  It makes me feel loved and appreciated.

  • I think cats are my favourite for various reasons. Different breeds all the better. Hence why I have Sphynx.

I also like the Blue Whale. I just feel in tune with them, I don’t know why, I am transfixed when I see them on TV, which isn’t often, as I don’t like ‘wildlife’ programs. I recall researching them as a child. Of course, it was books via endless books back then. Google didn’t exist. Neither did the internet lol

  • I like cows, they are very gentle creatures. Once I had to do councilling over the phone and I was so nervous but the councillor called when I was standing next to a field of cows and one of the cows just nuzzled and licked my hand the whole time and it calmed me down enough to get me through it

    • Cows is my odd one - I often seem to attract and hold their attention.  It's a joy to me
    • Horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and birds are the other animals that bring me joy and connection.
    • I would not want to live without animals in my world.
    • I can also understand dog behaviours far more successfully than most human displays.....and it is painful when I see oblivious owners either ignoring or (more often) doing wholly inappropriate things in response.

    • My dogs are really important to me, I’ve always said they’re slightly autistic too, I intuitively understand their body language. I also get pretty sad when I can see unhappy dogs and their owners can’t see it. I also love watching the birds in my garden, I have several feeders up. But I love wildlife in general, pretty sad that I’ve only ever seen a dead badger.

    • My favourite animals are cats; rigorously headstrong, and standoffish.
