Thanks for the recommendation, Ausome training is great.
I have not completed any of the Ausome training courses, but I have read some of their resources on the website and they are great. It’s great to have such positive, accurate and passionate autistic advocates leading and delivering brilliant training courses which reflect autistic lived experience.
Thanks for the link too, very interesting. I shall watch it later. You might be interested in this other autistic pride video from Aucademy:
This video is great, it made me feel so happy!
I think autistic pride should be referenced in training because it’s part of our culture and typically other autism courses that are not autistic led don’t talk about autistic people as a community, instead the content is usually very pathologising.
Many thanks. I love Aucademy but hadn't spotted this one. And yes, I just started one of the Skills Network courses advertised on Facebook (as usual, propelled by desperation) and I don't think I'll be completing it because it's full of pathologising language and I very much doubt whether they've involved any autistic people when they put it together. I don't need their Level 2 in pathologising a neuro-minority.
You are very welcome. I love Aucademy too!
That’s a shame, but not a surprise. You don’t want to waste your time on pathologising content about your own community.
Many generic autism courses that you search for online do not involve autistic people at all, or if they do it is very minimal and the autistic people are still very much stuck in the pathology paradigm.
Did you know that Aucademy also offer training?

Also this article from Ausome Training should help you identify good autism courses:

I hope you enjoy the Aucademy Autistic Pride video.
You are very welcome.
Maybe Tanya’s services are not suitable if you are all late discovered autistics. However, on her website it does say she specialises in supporting and advising autistic people with mental health needs. Sorry if that is not helpful.
I think Tanya is used to seeing and supporting many autistic people in burnout.
With regards to Chloe’s services, the more you learn about your own autistic profile the better. This means that you will hopefully be able to support the other autistic people in your life more. The more you know about yourself, the better you can look after other people. I hope this makes sense.

Even if these autistic consultants cannot directly help you, they may be able to advise you about others that can.
I hope you can find the services you need.
Thanks again. I'd not thought of Tanya as much of what I've seen relates to school age children and parents who are much younger and at a different stage in life. We'd basically already passed all of those stages by the time we realised we might be autistic. But might be worth a go.
The interest in mental health is quite important though, so I might try Chloe first. It'd be interesting to learn more about my own profile, and probably well worth the cost of the consultation in itself, but I'd also be hoping for some signposting that doesn't lead us straight back to mental health services.
You are very welcome for the Aucademy training link.
I am sorry you are struggling to support your adult family. That must be a really difficult situation. I don’t know of any training on the topics you mention apart from the Kieran Rose course which I remember you saying didn’t really meet your needs.
You could write a post asking about training on those topics though (apologies if you have already done this).
I was thinking of booking a 1:1 with Chloe but I'm getting the feeling that this is for individuals seeking support or advice regarding their own journeys and identities, while I'm seeking help for the helper (i.e mainly in my role as parent and carer).
Yes I think you are right.
I think Chloe ‘s consultations are mainly for autistic people who want to learn more about their own profile or are different parts of their autistic discovery journey. However, I think she has a dedicated interest in mental health so she may be able to help.
Alternatively you could contact another autistic consultant called Tanya Adkin, she may be able to help.
I hope you get the help you and your family need soon.
