Autistic Pride and Prejudice (Video)

Hi Everyone,

Just sharing this webinar which I attended a couple of weeks ago and have just realised is on Youtube.  I really like Ausome Training and would definitely recommend.

  • Thanks for the recommendation, Ausome training is great.

I have not completed  any of the Ausome training courses, but I have read some of their resources on the website and they are great. It’s great to have such positive, accurate and passionate autistic advocates leading and delivering brilliant training courses which reflect autistic lived experience.

Thanks for the link too, very interesting. I shall watch it later. You might be interested in this other autistic pride video from Aucademy:

This video is great, it made me feel so happy!

I think autistic pride should be referenced in training because it’s part of our culture and typically other autism courses that are not autistic led don’t talk about autistic people as a community, instead the content is usually very pathologising.

  • Many thanks.  I love Aucademy but hadn't spotted this one.  And yes, I just started one of the Skills Network courses advertised on Facebook (as usual, propelled by desperation) and I don't think I'll be completing it because it's full of pathologising language and I very much doubt whether they've involved any autistic people when they put it together.  I don't need their Level 2 in pathologising a neuro-minority.

  • You are very welcome. I love Aucademy too!

That’s a shame, but not a surprise. You don’t want to waste your time on pathologising content about your own community.

Many generic autism courses that you search for online do not involve autistic people at all, or if they do it is very minimal and the autistic people are still very much stuck in the pathology paradigm.

Did you know that Aucademy also offer training?

Also this article from Ausome Training should help you identify good autism courses:

I hope you enjoy the Aucademy Autistic Pride video.

  • You are very welcome.

Maybe Tanya’s services are not suitable if you are all late discovered autistics. However, on her website it does say she specialises in supporting and advising autistic people with mental health needs. Sorry if that is not helpful.

I think Tanya is used to seeing and supporting many autistic people in burnout.

With regards to Chloe’s services, the more you learn about your own autistic profile the better. This means that you will hopefully be able to support the other autistic people in your life more. The more you know about yourself, the better you can look after other people. I hope this makes sense.

This is Chloe’s profile from the Aucademy website:

Even if these autistic consultants cannot directly help you, they may be able to advise you about others that can.

I hope you can find the services you need.
