Hi,
As you can imagine the current hot weather has required lashings of suncream on the children; my eldest in 8 and has autism. She is extremely touch sensitive and has always hated most creams on her skin, but I think the combination of several hot days, lots of suncream and being sweaty and sticky has just pushed he over the edge today. We've had an enormous meltdown this morning, which is not great when we both have to get to work and get the children to holiday club (which she also isn't a fan of, so another contributory factor). I'm just wondering if anyone has any specific types of suncream that are less heavy or greasy or could recommend anything other than actual sucream?? We use Boots Factor 50 8 hour - for obvious reasons... she is a child and it's usually one application for the day.

I totally get your struggle with suncream, especially when it comes to kids who are touch-sensitive.

I prefer to stay inside to be honest.
If I have to go out in hot summer sun then light clothing, hats etc can protect from the sun, and try to stay in the shade.
Certain foods act as natural sunscreens when you eat them often, including tomatoes, pomegranate and green tea, but this is a very mild effect. It won't protect you from sunburn, it's more like having SPF2 or 3 on you the entire time, so over a lifetime it can reduce damage to DNA and skin.

Sorry if this is a bit late but as a 34 year old ginger who also hates the slimey sticky piz buin do an ultra light spray I use the factor 30, it is a cream and thus is a bit yucky going on, as with everything! However it leaves no residue, you could roll on the sand and just brush it off afterwards it's magic I have used it since my early teens when I realised I had to wear the terrible stuff or never go out in the sun which I love!
I think it's waterproof too but I can't remember.

I know the feeling. My granddaughter is also on the spectrum and it only takes one thing to unsettle her and then it has a domino effect all day. It's always better to try and cut them off at the pass, so to speak! Lol!

Awesome! I think this could be the answer!! I have seen something similar by Nivea today as well... I am hoping this is the way forward, as we have had a terrible day all round - all instigated (initially at least) by the suncream!
I use this because I can't cope with heavy, greasy sunscreens either, it's non greasy, light and is absorbed/dries quickly and offer good protection.

I get solar urticaria - I come out in nettle rash in any part (other than my face) that is in strong sunlight for more than 20 minutes or so. I do eventually tan, but the extreme discomfort of getting there makes it not worthwhile.

'Ultrasun' comes as a liquid spray - and also as a cream. The spray has a slightly oily feel when first put on but lasts for many hours - all day more or less. It doesn't have too much of a smell either. We have factor 30 and 50 spray at the moment. It is rather expensive, however.
