Autistic singers sought

Hello folks

I used to contribute here and hope it's OK to post a brief announcement or request.  There's an adult autistic choir that is currently recording a song by an autistic composer, and could do with more voices.  This is all done online, although before the current epidemic the choir mostly met in London.

The way these online choirs work (like the one Gareth Malone is doing in lockdown) is that you get an accompaniment or guide track which you sing along to while recording into a phone or other device. Then the various parts are stitched together and it sounds like a choir. Anyone autistic who would like to give it a try is welcome. If interested, please email contact@theautisticadultchoir.com.

  • You could always post a wanted notice on a singing jobs website specifying the requirements to join in - few singers are working right now and would probably be happy to get involved - try adding a listing to this singing opportunities website it is free - good luck and best wishes.

  • For me, music's charms wax and wane, and sadly I never learned an instrument - can pick out tunes slowly on a ukelele or keyboard. Finally got more into performing and music theory than listening later in life. I've only recently realised my vocal range covers barely an octave and a half, but still like adding a little interpretation to words and melodies.

Would be lovely to have you involved.

  • Music is an obsession, a blessing, a curse, and all things in between. I have perfect pitch but my vocal ability is poor, I like to play instruments and percussion.

I like singing though. Just today at work I was singing little ditties to myself, quite uninhibited. People have got used to me doing it.

  • That's cool that you have a good voice, and that it has good character. I think it's incredible how many different unique voices there are out there and how many have been and gone. I love singing and music but it's not something I'm good at or feel confident doing. My voice is raspy and doesn't sound great when I speak but when I sing it's even worse. I haven't dared to record myself singing, it would probably break my phone.

I would love to sing but it's not something I am good at anymore so I prefer to just listen to others and enjoy.

  • haha, i might disappoint  :-) thanks so much

  • You can contribute to this project wherever you live, because choirs aren't gathering in their usual places at the moment.  How do you know you can't sing? I was always inhibited from singing, but liked singing along to things, and now realise I can at least 'hold a tune'. While I don't have a great range I can listen to recordings of my own voice and it's respectable and has its own character.  A few autistic people turn out to have 'absolute pitch', but not most. The great thing about a choir is it doesn't depend on one person. Not feeling able to sing isn't just an autistic thing: I think that's why Gareth Malone is trying to encourage everyone.

  • I should have been clearer. The current activity of recording parts for this song is open to autistic singers wherever they live, because it's all done online. I probably shouldn't have mentioned London.

Your name sounds very musical, so please check out the website anyway: www.theautisticadultchoir.com/

  • This sounds like a lot of fun. Sadly I'm not close to London and I'm not able to sing so that rules me out :(

  • This looks really good, I wish I lived in commuting distance from London!

  • Good fortune to you too, DC.

Thanks for the informative link, although I'm not too fond of Empires, nor Facebook either. I'll try to get the YouTube link some other way... they probably won't want to publish the Zoom one to avoid Zoombombers (Zoombombing sounds a lot cooler than it actually is).

I remember you can't stand the heat. Hope you can enjoy nature at the moment.

  • Glad Tidings, Mr. Cassandro... (Huzzah!)

I like Your link, Thanks. Is it okay for Me to post this other link?

...The past few years I Myself forget when the Events in Hyde Park are occurring, usually because the Weather is *just too ferlipping HOT* for Me. Now, it is cooler and not so bad... but then now that Coro-Thing prevents outdoor gatherings anyway... typical.  :-/

(P.S. - People here currently are not so free with the 'UpVote' button as they were when You were first here. And I Myself do not log on as often as I used to. Glad to see You again anyway, Good Fortune 'n all that.   Slight smile )

  • Happy Autistic Pride Day!

Yes it is!  18 June https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autistic_Pride_Day  Rainbow

Autistic singers still welcome, from whatever part of the world and with whatever experience or ability.  All completely free. More info about the choir at www.theautisticadultchoir.com/
