Thanks all. I wasn't really after a level to determine the next steps for me. I suppose I was just expecting it, but I do get what you are all saying about it not really being important.

Maybe I was just wanting to know how obvious my diagnosis had been to the Dr.

Exactly how I look at myself, I'm simply on the spectrum, that's good enough for me.

Personally I don't really understand why people are sometimes so keen to have a 'level' of some kind. I don't think it's useful information. This is a really good article about why functioning levels or describing it as 'mild' or 'severe' don't really make sense and what autism being a spectrum really means. It's all individual and I think that's the best way of looking at it.

I believe there's a lot of variability with the diagnosis depending on anxiety levels and the way you answer questions on the day.   I don't really think it's important - you now have some data that you didn't before so you can take steps to analyse your life and plan how you want to proceed.  

How does your ASD affect you the most?   What made you seek a diagnosis?

Yes. However there are, within F84.0 299 three levels. I know I'm level 1 but my diagnosis didn't say.

I was told at my assessment last year they don't split it up into high or low functioning ect  anymore.

It is simply now a diagnosis that you are somewhere "on the spectrum"

I personally believe that this is because telling anyone they are "low functioning" at something, could have an impact ie making their depression worse

it seems to vary considerably - my diagnosis last year was officially Aspergers as my area still uses that.
