Jewelry

Apologies for any men coming onto this

Anyone else find they have lots of jewelry and never wear all of it?

I've got lots of necklaces but never wear them - some have meanings so I wouldn't let them go.

Although I tend to wear bracelets I'd say half of themi haven't worn or not worn for ages - again I'd keep the ones that have meanings to them.

The rings I've got I only have one I don't want so I'm not doing bad in that sense!

Brooches I never wear but some have meanings so would keep them

Just wondering if anyone else has lots of jewelry that they don't wear and don't have meanings to them, just sitting in their jewellery box just for the sake of being a women and getting them as gifts along the years

  • I got out of the habit of wearing jewelry during covid and I've never picked it up again

  • I have jewelry of sentimental value that I don't wear from family in the past. I don't wear jewelry that often, but some I do wear that have been presents I remember the person who gave it to me.

  • I've decided to split them into piles at the moment

    1. I will wear

    2. Those that have meanings

    3. Will not wear and don't have meanings

Not quite sure how to go about putting them in a jewelry box though. I have two but I'm overwhelmed how to do it

  • Ì have some jewellery of sentimental value that I don’t wear. I don’t have a lot of other jewellery. I wear earrings every day, usually one or other of two pairs. If I am going out I wear a ring and sometimes a bracelet made of natural polished stone so I can fiddle with it if need be. I have a few other pieces that I occasionally wear, but most of the time they are tucked up safely in my jewellery box.

  • A couple of days ago I tried wearing my signet ring again - it actually fits on my little finger which I'm proud of

I'm keeping ones that mean things to me, like grandmas necklaces etc

  • I'm the opposite in the sense that I like wearing bracelets but don't like wearing necklaces!

My dad said to give the ones I don't want to charity as they'll get more money then I would from selling them (going to do the charity shop but need to think which one!)

Good to know some men are into jewelry so I haven't offended all of them!

  • I've made some bracelets - I don't wear these out though in public but have worn them when I visit my brother's

  • I don't have a lot of jewelry, I have a few things I've got over the years, nothing worth too much, mostly necklaces and a few earrings and I know when I got each of them and from whom (my mum/husband/sister-in-law).

I didn't wear rings till I got my engement and wedding rings, and I think I lost the wedding ring down the bath plug possibly, or in the garden. He offered to get me a new one but I said I would just wear the engement one. Even that, my husband got mixed up and thought you didn't spend much on the engagement ring so it's inexpensive, but that suits me fine, we got it somewhere special so that means more.

They sit in a jewelry box my sister got me for being her bridesmaid which she got engraved.

  • I don't have a great deal of jewelry, most of what I have is earings that need the wires changing as they've become a bit coroded over the years. As ever with me, there's lots of jewelry I can't wear, it has to be stainless steel or silver, or my skin get itchy and sore, that includes most gold too. I do wear broaches, I'd like more as I like them to hold scarves together, I don't wear bracelets as I can't stand anything dangling around my wrists and like rings which I also don't wear they get in the way of all the practicle things I do. I like necklaces as long as they're not to long and dangly and get in my food.

Most of my jewelry I've bought myself from small artisan makers, using silver and semi precious stones, I love garnets and would far rather them than rubies, I love amethysts too. I've never had a diamond though, part of me feels I'm not properly grown up as I've never had one, I don't really know why? But then I don't really like most of the modern cuts, I prefer softer cuts and cabuchons.

I think one of the problems with selling jewelry is getting it reliably valued, most places seem to just give scrap value for the metal, maybe thats really all they're worth, but a lot of pieces are seriously undervalued.

I know you aid sorry to the guys for this thread, but I know a few men who are into their jewelry and have quite a lot of it.

  • I've made two bracelets at my group, last year and gem stones wrapped around wire.

    Also got shop bought bracelets.

I've haven't worn those for ages.

    Did have a necklace with my name on it (given by an ex pen friend);

Definitely keep them as some may have a hallmark and worth something.

  • My mum says to keep it all because of the money value in the future but it's just sitting there when I could sell it and get money to put in savings now to get interest

  • Yes, loads. Can't cope with necklaces, rings, bracelets or dangly earrings so they all sit in a box. Even have jewellery that was my grandmothers. It seems wasted on me,  but I try to look past the sentimental reason for keeping it and look at its future monetary value for my children! (granny would be horrified)
