Hi
I have a son who is now 8 years old.
We had the same problem we did not even get him through infant school with out problems, So you are not alone. The school had a statement for my son and refused to do things even suggested by the Paediatrician and the speech language etc.
My son loved school with one helper but they changed and changed helpers, Until my son hated it.He would not get dressed, he would bite and kick so in the end I took him out and I home teach him.
I just banged my head against brick wall after brick wall. It is not easy with his sleep problems etc, But it was the best move for us at this time. I appreciate your son needs the help and support with the senior school.
I wanted to bring my son up as normal as possible in a state school, But he found it very hard. The only suggestion we had was either teach him at home, or send him to a special school, Where the teachers and helpers understand.
The paediatricians report usually take about 4-6 weeks, I personally would wait for this before doing anything, Otherwise you just have the word of the school etc. You are better off waiting for a full report off the doctor. If you feel you must do it now you could and say you have the appointment and will send that report in at a later date.
At the moment home teaching my son is all right, But I have the same problem when he hits 11 and needs to go to a senior school, I personally think we will end up sending our son to a special school.
They have programmes and advice for senior children sitting GCSE's etc, They do activities with them go camping etc, Plus they actually get work placements for people with ASD and Aspergers .
I do hope you find a way forward with your son, It is not easy you have to fight all the way for everything, I have found this out myself along the way.
