Feel alone

Hi everyone!.....this is my first time doing this!....I'm a mum of 3 teenagers, one which is autistic, just wanted to say hi and hopefully not feel so alone

  • I just found out recently that in our area the sensory team is seperate from the autism spectrum condition team, so at my son's upcoming asc assesment, they won't go into sensory things at all! Helpful paedatrician has just referred him to the sensory team (so back to the bottom of a list then). So, my point is that it might be worth checking who deals with sensory issues locally and trying to get GP to refer you to them. Good luck.

  • My High functioning 11 year old boy has overcome a lot but is still plagued with being paranoid over certain issues such as shutting himself in a room when anyone is eating or drinking something he does not like eg. milk, tomatoes, cheese (some of which he used to eat when young or even crave). He says he manages to control himself in the school canteen when kids around him are having this but cannot at home. Similar issue with his younger brother kissing a toy used by both or putting his finger in his mouth where he keeps looking at him to monitor and gets anxious telling him to wipe the toy. So also he cannot be kissed and I worry about future relationships. No GP has suggested a solution and trying for a second time to get recommended to CAMHS in the hope CBT may help. An OT claiming to specialise in this area was consulted on a private basis and suggested generic exercise and unproven music therapy to relax him but I was not impressed though if he is distracted with the TV or music he may not notice if someone nearby is having a buttered bread. Any experiences of success would be great.

  • Hi Top Mama

It can be pretty lonely sometimes can't it.
