Advice would be appreciated

I hope someone could advise me.

My son, aged 9 (nearly 10) has recently been diagnosed with ASD.  He has had problems at school since the age of three and it has took this long for his diagnosis.

For the last 6 months he seems to need very little sleep, sometimes can be 4am before we get to sleep.  His behaviour is also seriously going downhill, he seems to have meltdowns nearly everyday.  Over the last week he has attacked four different pupils in his class.  All of them provoked him in some way and he retaliated.  Can the school exclude him for his behaviour?  We have been waiting nearly 7 months for the Autistic Outreach team to come into school to help him.

He's in mainstream school and I'm starting to wonder whether it would be better for him to be in a special school.

Any advice would be appreciated.

  • My son is on these tablets believe me when I say it was a very hard decision and not a decision that was taken lightly Im not sure what I was expecting my son to be like once he had taken this tablet but the way he is after having them is nothing like I expected they don't knock him out or turn him into a zombie they take around a couple of hours to work all they do is help him relax and once he's in this relaxed state he just nods off which before was not possible he sometimes does wake through the night (not every night ) but he soon falls back to sleep so he's goes to sleep at around 9pm and gets up at around 7am it has helped so much as he's getting enough sleep now his out burst of anger have definitely decreased which means us as a family are all getting the sleep we need between taking these and his new school also not forgetting the hard work he's put in life is better and calmer for the whole family willmum does you son have a statement through school
