Advice would be appreciated

I hope someone could advise me.

My son, aged 9 (nearly 10) has recently been diagnosed with ASD.  He has had problems at school since the age of three and it has took this long for his diagnosis.

For the last 6 months he seems to need very little sleep, sometimes can be 4am before we get to sleep.  His behaviour is also seriously going downhill, he seems to have meltdowns nearly everyday.  Over the last week he has attacked four different pupils in his class.  All of them provoked him in some way and he retaliated.  Can the school exclude him for his behaviour?  We have been waiting nearly 7 months for the Autistic Outreach team to come into school to help him.

He's in mainstream school and I'm starting to wonder whether it would be better for him to be in a special school.

Any advice would be appreciated.
