animation software suggestions and where to get shoes for toe walkers

Hello

This is my first post and I don't know if there is anyone out there who can give me any guidance in two issues.

Our teenage son is severely handicapped by his autistism with limited communication skills but he loves using his computer - he is self-taught (XP operating system) to create pictures and powerpoint slide shows that act like a flickbook to animate objects which he films sometimes with a soundtrack.  He is asking about animation software but there are so many options out there I was wondering if anyone had experience of their child using animation software and what they have found successful.

Also he has been a toe walker from the day after he started to walk and finding footwear that will stay on his feet is difficult.  He currently has some great lightweight flexible soled ankle boots from Brantano but these are no longer available. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where footwear for strong toe walkers can be purchased?

I would be grateful for any suggestions concerning these two matters.

  • Hi there! I'm happy to offer some guidance on your concerns. To help with your first issue, I can suggest some animation software that may be a good fit for your son, depending on his skill level and interests. Check out Pivot Animator, which is a free and easy-to-learn software that's great for beginners. For more advanced users, Blender is a free option that's widely used in the industry to create 3D animations. If your son is interested in professional-level software used in studios for TV and movies, Toon Boom may be a good choice. Although it's not free, there is a free trial available to explore.
Regarding your second issue, finding appropriate footwear for a strong toe walker can be a challenge, but there are some options that may help. Look for shoes with a high-top design to provide extra support around the ankle. Custom-made orthopedic shoes can also be a great choice for support and correction of walking abnormalities. Shoes with adjustable straps or laces can be tightened to keep them in place. It may also be beneficial to seek guidance and recommendations from a pediatric podiatrist or orthopedic specialist. I hope these suggestions were helpful! [removed by moderator]

  • Blender animation software is good multipurpose animation software but it may be a little complicated, It's free and theirs are plenty of youtube tutorials. A computer operating WINDOWS XP may not be able to run it as most applications and software have moved to windows 7, 10 and 11.

If you get the money together, an ipad with a one time of purchase of procreate may be alternative as that computer must be near to the end of its life. most 2000-2010 computers at the low end of the budget where never designed to last a decade.

  • Hello

Thank you very much for the information about the Calagri Truespace 3D package.  It may not be what our son starts with but it sounds like the sort of package that does what he is really wanting to do.  His communication skills are very limited so his IT skills have been learnt by trial and error and a lot of frustration however he has developed excellent IT skills in his areas of interest.

    Many thanks again.

  • Hi,

I used to be heavily in to 3D graphics and animation, I even tried to make a career out of it in the late 80s, when I was told that there will never be any great need for animated computer graphics.

One of the packages I used was Calagri Truespace 3D, which was taken over by Microsoft some years ago, and now discontinued. The good news is Today that it is freely available as a download on the internet (Legitimatly I must add). It used to cost a few hundred pounds to buy and competed with the professional packages used in film and tv costing many thousands.

I don't know if that is the kind of thing your son is looking for, will take a long time to master, but there is a massive resource of information on the internet
