plz help

hi im new to thiis site.

my son is 3 years and 9 months he is waiting for autism diagnoses which will take about year.

my son is very energetic, positiv and happy boy but does not give eye contact at all.as a mother i feel if he gets therapy treatment at this stage he can recover enough but doctors say before diagnose no treatment can be strted properly , but i dont want to waste 1 more year. i cant leave him to become sevear. private therapies are very expensive and we are not entitled for extra funding for private treatment.

at the moment he is in a private nersary.now i come to know that if he is in a primary school nersary he could get 1 to 1 support there but its very late as all the primary school plces for september has gone .my son,s 1 year is gonna waste and he will remain in private nersary that is not entitled for 1 to 1 support.

what should i do now to get 1 to 1 support plz help

  • Dear Uzma, don't worry.
We waited for one and a half year to the final Statement for my son to get a 1:1 support. He is in a normal, simple primary school.

If the school is supportive and you are capable to work with them closely, your lovely boy can attend to the school without 1:1
What "working closely with the school" means? In our case during the waiting time in the first few months I took my son home every day at lunchtime, later he could attend the whole day but I spent the lunchtime with him or I was able to run to the school when he had serious meltdowns.
At this time I was a full time student or self-employed with flexible work pattern, so I was able to do that.
The most important thing the good communication between you and the school. If the teachers see you are really really want to help them and support them, they will be more flexible.

My son is 10 now, he will start year 6 this September and I am so thankful to his school and his teachers.

And also what Atypical said is true. I also have autism but I didn't got any support during my childhood. Now I have three university undergrad. degrees, and also a master's degree and I'm doing my dream job.
    So don't panic. :)
If you need help with home-therapies, I can give you some good examples.
