Discipline in schools, should I report?

Hi,

I've made this profile because I need some advice and after a conversation I had with an ex-colleague. She has recently moved to work in a school who cater for autistic children aged 2-11. We happened to bump into each other and she was talking of her new job. She proceeded to get out an iPad and show me pictures of the children. She made many disrespectful remarks about a handful of the children labelling one as grossly obese and fat saying "I can't even pick up this fat child look how fat he is" etc. She then showed me a picture of a boy she labeled as a "spitter". Being curious in the profession she had chosen I asked how the school handles challenging behaviour and she said they aren't meant to but they spray them with a water bottle. Surely that isn't allowed?
Myself being a 19 year old and having no previous experience with autism, I don't really know what to do. I'm sure she wasn't even meant to be showing me pictures of the children let alone make comments as she did.
I just need advice as what to do or who to report her to if I should?
Thanks for any replies in advance.
  • Hi,

We are sorry to hear about this very concerning situation. It certainly sounds like you should get in touch with the Police about this if you want to take it further.

Do let us know what happens...

    Take care,

    Avi

  • Apart from anything else this is a breach of confidentiality if she has shown the images to you who else??

  • sorry there was an error and my message was posted twice... anyway id like to tell you a big thank you if you report this devil woman  because by doing so you will kind of protect our innocent kids, i dont know why the school allow staff to keep their phone with them it should be forbidden to prevent these kind of things.

also if your friend dare  ask u why u reported her you can spitt on her face and say shes a shame for our society and give her my message "she might escape justice in this world but God  saw everything and she wont esape Gods Justice at her death !"

  • hi,

being a mum of a 4 yo autistic child and just having accepted a place for reception next year at special need school,i cant tell how much im disgusted, the tear are leaving my eyes, im so disgusted !! kids like mine dont understand like neuro typical childs, whats wrong with your rubbish friend, you shod report her please for the sake of our kids, my sn is also a "spitter " but thats because he doesnt know how to express his disagrement thats all, and devil people like your friend just take advantage of the fact that these kids are innocent, if shes not happy to work with our kids then leave and give your job to a person better ....

im now reviewing the idea to put my son in a special need shool because im scared of the abuse ... thanks to your devil friend

  • There has been a working day since the OP. NAS needs to justify why they have made no response to this very serious allegation.

  • I think its a police matter! the spraying with water meets the definition of common assault, I see no appropriate reason for a teacher to have images of the children in their care let alone be showing them around, and the whole school seems likely to be a cesspool of abuse that will be scaring a generation of vulnerable children.

    Edit

Consider that the water spray may not be a harmless and mild stimulous. Social phobias and hypersensitivities could make this torturous!

  • Hi, I think you're right to be concerned about the practices going on in this school + have posted here for assistance.  I think they should be reported.  There are a variety of organisations + I suggest you start with OFSTED + also the Care Quality commission.  The council's education + social services depts shd be informed via their respective Directors and the Chairs of those committees who will be councillors.  If need be you could be anonymous.   So check out your council's website, also the CQC + OFSTED sites.  You are doing the right thing.  I applaud you for taking the position you have.
