Self harming

A few months ago, I wrote a message about my niece - who self harms by bangs her her arms severely. She is non verbal and not able to communicate what is upsetting her. She had all her wisdom teeth removed a month ago, we thought this was the problem. While she has had a few good days, she has gone back to the self injurious behaviour. She has been given a variety of drugs to help - some help temporarily, or exacerbate, or do nothing. The medics seem at a loss. It's deeply disturbing for the family to deal with. Has anyone heard of this, had any experience of this behaviour?

This sounds like a deeply stressful and upsetting experience for you and your family to deal with, and I am wishing you and your niece all the best.  I hope the information in the links is helpful.  Please know that you are not alone in dealing with situations like these, and that the online community is always here for you.  Please feel free to reach out to us again if you feel you need more support.
