My 5 yr old son is being monitored for learning difficulties over a 6month period, starting from April, paused during school holidays, continuing now. I'm fairly sure its ADHD and autism as getting his attention for anything he is not interested in is a real challenge, and the melt downs over routine change is a mighty mighty challenging and talking to him is like talking to a brick wall at times & he obsesses hard. I'm also fairly sure I'm autistic but never got officially diagnosed, online tests tend to put me on the autism spectrum, but I find those things hard to answer as I've learned to navigate social expectancies & behaviour, but I'm finding myself in a hard place right now, reverting back to self medication & marriage on the line. I'm now pondering whether to go private for myself, my son or just wait for the school, though I've no idea what happens based on their report but I've hope for referral for him and eventually myself as I heard some years back that if autism is in a child the parents can also get tested. I've looked at the fees for private assessment and damn is it expensive.
