Parent of 18 year old with PDA and social anxiety, south east London

Hi, my name's Jo.

I'm hoping to connect with other parents who may have a young adult with similar struggles to my daughter who is also experiencing social isolation.

My daughter received her diagnosis of autism at age 14 and found it near on impossible to attend or stay in school. She is now funded for 2hrs a week on the therapeutic side of a special school but rarely manages to attend. She rarely leaves the house. She loves gaming (Robux, The Simms, etc) and creating digital art (in particular creating original characters or restyling characters from shows she watches).

  • Hello Elthammum, welcome to the NAS community, glad to have you here with us - I do not think you will be alone in your struggles here, at all.

As a reminder, do not forget rule 2 - it is very important that we protect the identity and wellbeing of those who use our service, including yourself.

You are absolutely right, it is very important to connect with those who understand and recognise what we are going through - our fights, our day to day existence.

While I am sure that our community will have fantastic feedback to provide, I would like to in the meantime, direct you towards our NAS  approved resources:

Education - I wonder if any of our guides may provide additional information that may be of use.

Parent to Parent Emotional Support Helpline -  Our Emotional Support Hotline.

Autism Services Directory - our service directory relating to resources located about the UK.

I wish you the best going forwards, you certainly deserve the support, as does your daughter.

    Thanks - Zac Mod.

  • Thanks very much Zac, your response and suggested resources are greatly appreciated. I don't think I can update my post to remove my name, but take this feedback on board going forward. Thanks again.
