Stimming is becoming too much

My 3 year old was diagnosed earlier this year and he constantly stims by jumping up and down and running around. It is starting to get a bit too much and we struggle to calm him down. We also live in a flat above a shop and the jumping causes an awful lot of noise and vibration. We've tried different activities but he doesn't have a very long attention span. He also doesn't look where he is going when he is running around and constantly bumps into the sofa where my husband sits who has recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and also has ME/CFS and it causes him pain every time the sofa gets bumped into.

Any suggestions as to what we can try to get him to calm down and if there's anyone we can speak to about it. I have mentioned it to our OT but they didn't say much about it.

  • I mentioned in (I think) your other post that, in my experience at least, you'll have to really push/fight to be heard...

Sometimes you have to rattle cages to get what you want, so going back to that OT and asking again is worth it. Be prepared to write to their superiors too, and research what is their remit and isn't. If they say they do what you need be prepared to really have to push them to do it.
