Many years ago after accidently burning myself I did burn I think to experience something physical to put against something emotional,- make it something tangible. This was years before any diagnosis or anything, and something i guess I put down to adolecense.
It would be great if someone that shes close to could find out her thoughts and feelings which may help then address it.
Thank you for your thoughts - unfortunately my niece is low-functioning and pretty non-verbal, so it is hard to get an understanding from her as to whether she is going through something particular
I don't have any experience, but I would imagine it is either frustration or overwhelm. You'd would need to find the trigger or pattern that causes it.
This is only going to be by careful observation.
It might not be a direct response to something at the time, but a cumulative thing, such as poor sleep, particular food, certain activity, building up to something.
It might be a particular food triggers a certain sensation. It is possible to feel quite hot after eating. I notice it particularly 20-30 minutes after eating. Thermal regulation in general can be more difficult, which might cause you to wave your arms around.
I don't know if thirst might trigger it too.
Or maybe just certain visual input.
