Dear all,
This is my first post here and although I had a search I couldn't find anything specific to my question, so I hope someone out there may be able to give adivce.
My son is in mainstream school in year3 and currently doing allright with an ECHP plan based on his autistic traits.
They are generally an inability to form relationships with people outside his family or even communication appropriately for his age, a high sensory sensitivity that can lead to anxiety and meltdowns, and a lot of manifestations of anger and frustration when someone does try to communicate and he is not initiating such a commuunication. It makes home life quite stressful although at school he hides this and is "ok" there.
In addtion he has problems with his motor skills and I feel he is a bit stiff in his upper body movements which sometimes affects this area.
He also has a lack of awareness of the feelings of others and intentions.
In all I would like to spend some money/time I have to help him locally in things that, although won't change his autism as such, perhaps will give him ways to cope.
Can anyone recommend clubs or centres in the Hamphisre area that cater for autistic people and allows them the chance to do activities in a safe non committal way? Or even support groups where he may be able interact or play with other children with low stakes interactions as this is an area he struggles with? I would also consider private fine motor skills therapy, but I'm not sure who may be able to provide this.
