Dogs in housing

Hi everyone I’m new here, I’m in need of some advice, I am 34 years old and diagnosed autistic and adhd among many other mental illnesses , I’m about to be without a home in July after I finish university due to the death of my father, I have also got my dog Poppy who I can’t survive without her, I’m very scared I’d have to be separated from her as I’m applying for housing through the counci/housing authority l and that would cause severe emotional turmoil, I’ve tried to get a letter from my gp to say she is key for my mental wellbeing and mental stability but they refused to do that, I’ve tried to call everywhere that could help but nobody wants to help me…

any advice on how I’d be able to keep her with me would be appreciated…

thank you

  • I am sorry but I really don’t know of anything else that may help.

If I were in your situation I probably would first find out what the policy on dogs is at the housing authority you are dealing with and take it from there. If they don’t have a policy or refuse to accept dogs, I would probably make out a list of the ways my dog supports me. If time permits, I would do this over days/weeks, editing the information so that it cover all the essential points. Use the list to formulate a master letter for making multiple copies if needed and send it/them to the people concerned.
