Gender identity

Thankyou everyone for your kind words we are navigating this with my son this is very overwhelming for me I can't imagine what it feels like for my son who has high spectrum autism and yes my son will be joining this the doors are opening for him now i will let yourselves know that he has masked and hidin his gender dysphoria which I have just come across 1 wk prior to his pycholigist appointment this is raw and I'm trying to soak in this information on top of his autism and gender dysphoria connection is with autistic young adults I'm still learning 

I have a transgender child (ADHD, rather than autism). It is sad that most of the trans people he knows have some level of alienation from their parents and other family members. Not something that has happened in my family, despite autistic dislike of change on my part. If you remain supportive of your child, you will be doing the most constructive thing you could possibly do.

That's really wonderful, it's hard and sad for them at the moment, as there is a lot of phobia around at the moment, and a lot of uncertainty for their rights.  At least they know they have a supportive family behind them!

Not sure where that came from? My children are well aware, because I have told them, that my love for them is entirely unconditional. I was contrasting the continued support that my transgender child has received from me and the rest of my family, with the experience of many other trans people, who often suffer various levels of rejection from their parents and other family members.

I had some trouble adapting, but this was not due to moral outrage or disapproval, but due to my typical autistic difficulties coping with change. As with many changes, I found that I had a lag phase before I could adapt to the changing circumstances. At no stage in this process was I anything less than supportive of my child, I was just experiencing internal difficulties adapting my mind-set.
