13 year old eats with his fingers

I’m just wondering if anyone else can relate. My 13 year old son likes to eat with his fingers. I am constantly reminding him to use his knife and fork. Can anyone else relate to this?

  • These are mostly the reasons for me and my siblings preferring eating food with hands. It’s kind of difficult to use cutlery, and all of us are picky so having touch gives another way to inspect the food (like if a strawberry is too squishy). Then my sister especially hates the sound of metal so we use plastic.

I can also imagine maybe it being sensory seeking?

  • My parents were borderline mentally ill and neglectful.  As a child I was never taught to use cutlery, eating fish & chips was always with my fingers and I loved chicken which I also tore apart with my fingers.  I only used spoons for soup.
