My 12 yr old has joined secondary this year and is burning out fast. He’s off sick today but from the school policy there’s nothing related to autism & im worried it’ll be unauthorised.
has anyone got any advice please?

Thank you he has a plan advice at school but he is the textbook of mask which doesn’t help our case sometimes.
My advice would be to contact the school, explain the situation, and ask if there are things they can put in place to make life a little easier for your son. In my experience it's better to be honest and upfront and make the school aware of exactly what's going on.
I work in a school and really encourage you to talk to the school about your child’s needs. They may be able to find ways to reduce chance of burnout in future, or they might be able to allow him to ‘work from home’ rather than missing out completely. No school wants kids absent, but they also don’t want to fail at supporting students especially those with SEN. Clear and open communication is the best way forwards, if needs be, remind them of their obligation to make reasonable adjustments for SEN students. Of course how your school responds will depend on how responsive they are to student needs, but it can’t hurt to ask/explain. Hope this helps.
