My Son who’s 8 is either sliding down the stairs with a duvet on blanket over his head or trying to climb on my back or shoulders on the stairs. Any idea why this could be and what might help please?

I did this and probably worse things when I was his age. Most children do because it's fun and exciting, they don't see the danger and unfortunately it usually takes a bruise or two before they realise it isn't fun and hurts.
My favourite as a child was playing in the kitchen, climbing on the sides and being silly. My mum kept saying you'll fall off and be sorry. I did one day, suddenly it wasn't fun anymore and I stopped.
Keep warning him and telling him no like all parents do and he should learn and grow out of it. Most of us do.

cause and effect - a classic learning tool.
Puppies will bite their siblings and parents until one bites back hard and it learns. Humans seem to have lost this technique and just avoid anything that may cause any harm leading to people growing up thinking nothing can harm them - until it bites back.
Yeah it sure is. Sometimes a bit painful lol but at least you learn important stuff from it.
Big issue now is parents are in fear of being reported if they bite or "physically harm" their children. My step mum works at a school and if they hear anything like that they have to report it straight away. It's crazy.
I remember my parents doing such things and it wasn't abuse, just teaching me right from wrong. And it worked.
