  • Hi Filomenah, its so bad how are children are treated in mainstream ,i'm going to look into the Education rights information and give them a call ,then i shall make an appt to go into school and ask to look at there plan for olivia i know its early days but i can't just let time slip by .....i'm surprised she is doing the same work as her peers her helper is like a p.a because my daughter cant write independently yet her helper writes every thing for her what is she learning ...Not a lot ....she's not getting that sence of acheivement with out that whats the point .i hope you manage to get your daughters visual timetable sorted out ,has she got a I.E.P ?Let me know what happens take care for now xx Mel

  • Hi Tea and filomenah,

In addition to moonraker's suggestions I just wanted to quickly highlight the Education Rights Service. I know it's been mentioned a few times but if you'd like to speak to trained volunteers about your experiences and see what they can suggest to help then it's free and there to help.

Here's the link to the details of the service -

  • Hi to you both

Was no transition planning from Primary to Secondary school put in place for your daughters?

I think you should contact the head teacher and arrange an urgent appointment with them and the SENCO. Make a list of all your concerns and make sure each one is addressed properly. At the end of the meeting arrange a follow up meeting to see how things are going and follow up with a letter outlining your concerns and any solutions that were reached/agreed.

I would also keep a daily diary of things that happen, keep a record of conversations with the school-dates, who with etc.

I would start how you mean to go on with the school and don't be fobbed off.

    Good luck to you both.

  • hi

i am going through ther same thing. my daughter has also just started yr7 and it is also her 3rd day there. She has been given a timetable like everyone else which she is finding hard to understand. at primary school she had a visual timetable and i was expecting one at secondary too.She was very stressed this morning as she did not know where her maths class is and was scared of geting a detention for being late to it.I am not happy with the situation.

  • Well this is our daughters 3rd day in year 7 she's come home with 3 lots of homework now considering she never had any at primary school because it was thought too much and she should not have the stress when she gets home 'i'm thinking what the hell is going on.......did the school really not listen to me ...........she cant read or write i read with her at home and she's doing the same class work as her peers with help...........this can't be write she needs to be working at the level she's at not the class .

  • After reading ..0..report yesterday ,its clear that ..o...needs to deal with her anger issues, she can flare up so quick ,how will her new peer's respond to this at secondary school. She's fine with the teachers ,she just gets an over load if she's with the kids to long .

  • Our daughter can not write independently and she struggles reading year 1-2 books going  to big school ,is going to be so hard it feels like i'm sending her to the den and she has no idea
