Stimming during school holidays

Does anyone notice if their children’s stimming gets worse and more distressing for them during the school holidays? My Sons has a couple of times.  Usually it’s calming for him

  • Hi, Im not sure but perhaps your child is stimming as they are out of their normal routine of the school day and the Christmas has taken them a bit out their comfort zone?

Do you have a schedule you keep to at home so they know what and when things are happening and have a routine they can keep to?  They may also be stimming as they enjoy it.

  • Stimming is usually a response to stress, not the cause. The only situation I can imagine where stimming would cause stress is if an autistic person was desperate not to stim, for social reasons, but felt unable to stop. I imagine that social pressures are generally lower out of school than in it.
