Refusal of medical treatment = blindness

Hi

Any advice would be amazing.
my daughter has a PDA profile and has refused to treat an eye infection. She has been told today that she has permanent damage in her right eye and the left could go the same way. She refuses the eye drops and cleaning regime and I’m at my wits end.

can anyone relate?

  • In the top right hand corner of your screen, next to the lightening strike symbol (mark on Harry Potters Forehead) is the rectangular message / speach bubble - click on that - and find me (I'm Number) and send a message.  No urgency - in your own time, and only if you want.

DISAMBIGUATION - For the sake of Rule 13 on this forum, I feel bound to expressly state that I am not a professional in this field and have no certifiable qualifications, expertise nor experience in this field and nor would I presume to proffer advice to you regarding your daughter.  My only intent is to explain how I manage myself, and you can take that or leave as you see fit.

  • If it’s simply a fact that she can’t bring herself to do it while awake, and she’s competent, she could voluntarily consent to sedation so that they can do it while she is asleep, if her eyesight is at stake surely sedating her is a small risk compared to that

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this post. Knowing how to approach the situation will really help.
would love to chat more but today is my first day on this website and I don’t know how to DM yet!
uave been given so much hope with all the posts here, thanks a million

  • Hi Maureen.

Mad old Number rambling on again.

My best best wishes to you both,

    Number.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your situation. That can't be nice for either of you to be going through.

I highly suggest you to call the GP and he/she will be able to offer support and help, likely a specialist who will be able to talk to your daughter and get her to accept treatment.

Do this tomorrow. If she loses her sight she will really miss it.

    Good luck both!
