5 year old son recently diagnosed, where now! no one seems to help or advise

Good Morning All

My youngest son Jack who's just turned 5 has recently been diagnosed with Autism. Throughout the whole process his school hasn't been much support and even now that we've told them he's had his formal diagnosis they're still not very helpful on what they're going to do moving forward.

He has issues with every day life which we need to get him help with and address but even the doctors and hospital having followed up with any help.

Where do we turn now to get him the help required? Any advise gratefully received.

  • If you prefer to read, there are a load of good books out there that offer information and advice that is easy to search and re-read on your computer / tablet / phone:

Asperger's Answer Book - The Top 275 Questions Parents Ask - Susan Ashley PhD (2006)
    ISBN 1402219776

Asperger's Syndrome - A Guide for Parents and Professionals - Tony Attwood (2008)
    ISBN 9781843106692

Asperger's Syndrome - A Guide to Helping Your Child Thrive at Home and at School - Melinda Docter, Ed.D._ Syed Naqvi, MD (2010)
    ISBN 9780470140147

Everyday activities to help your young child with autism live life to the full - Debra S Jacobs, Dion E Betts
    ISBN 9781849052382

I would recommend reading the reviews on Amazon before deciding to buy any so you can judge if they have been helpful for other parents.

If you have specific questions then this site has a wealth of information. I would suggest starting with the seach button (the magnifying glass icon near the top right of the screen) and search for other discussion threads to see if the same question has been asked / answered before - then reply to one of those threads if you have a question that is relevant to your inquiry.
