HI

Hi my 13 year old daughter has just been diagnosed as having aspergers syndrome now we are told to go it alone. Please help its a minefield out there. She goes to a small school with only 30 children as she cannot cope with noise and crowds but when she melts down the head treats her as a nauhgty child. I feel like all i do is moan and groan as no one seems to want to help.

She has no friend. What can we do.

Please help

  • Hi - there's info on the home pg if you type in educational statement or similar which shd be helpful.  I don't know what part of Britain you live in so don't want to give advice if it differs between, for example, England + Scotland.  Remember you can apply yourself.  You don't need a professional to do it on your behalf.  Your council social services dept will have a section relating to "learning disabilities" or similar title.  For children it shd come under the Education + families dept (check out your council's website).  I wish I cd be more accurate but councils do vary a bit in titles + also what's in their depts.  I know it's more work for you, but it is worth it.  It's so very unfortunate that services don't automatically link up once a diagnosis is given to save parents + their children so much heartache.  Please let us know how you get on.  You shouldn't have to be doing this.
