Getting ready for summer

What helps you in the summer. All the family love summer majority of the time except my oldest, who's autistic. She hates it.

1. How do you cope with suncream. We get burnt easily and quickly. She has her own suncream from last year which isn't too sticky but she only puts it on her face. It's the only part she can tolerate it.

2. How can we make breaking up from school at the end of the year easier. Meltdowns will last weeks leading up to it and days after.

3. Clothing. She never wears appropriate clothing. She did for a couple of weeks last year. She wore shorts. We have bought summer clothing, which she picked. But always has a jumper on due to not liking the light touch of wind. Same with joggers, she's still wearing fluffy joggers, and thermal clothes and school have reported that she is getting really hot and bothered but refuses to take them off. If her jumper is off she has it wrapped round her neck which makes her really hot too because she doesn't like anything touching her neck, not even her hair. Her clothes are also her comfort item and feels naked and very vulnerable without them. She also struggles to realise where her body is and positioned and her clothing helps her with this. So I'm not sure what to do.

Clothing is our biggest issue. If she has the right clothes, she can function and tolerate a lot more better.

  • Re clothing, are you able to find any loose cotton clothing that she is happy with? The sweatshirts/ hoodies young people like tend to be synthetic and thick. I prefer to put cream on my face and neck mainly, then cover the rest with loose cotton clothing.

  • 1. My Mum bought a spray last year from from Amazon developed by a local dermatologist, it’s called Altruist it’s really thin and fairly clear and doesn’t have the typical thick suncream texture at all. She is really sensitive to titanium dioxide due to bad eczema.

    2. Sorry I don’t have any advice on this it’s not an issue any of us have

    3. I have some really thin joggers from Matalan, think they call them harem leggings. They’re especially good for days where it’s a bit chilly at either end of the day but you can also pull them up to the knees easily if it is really hot in the afternoon. But even if you leave them down they’re lighter than normal joggers and not tight. Could you get some thin long sleeved linen tops as well if she likes being covered?
