DMS5- Next steps

Hi

Finally, the assessment is completed and it concluded she is DMS5.  Now I am thinking on apply for EHP.  Any recommendations on schools that are good for ASD DMS5 children in England Berkshire area? Although I will be checking online I would like to hear from the Parents and their experience.

Please do drop a note if you have ANY advice.

Thank you

Regards

  • So DSM5 is like a big book of all the different medical conditions that people can have.  They are saying that she has a diagnosis of ASD as it is described in this book.

A lot of autistic children do attend mainstream schools and some of them do get support, but as each child has different needs the school has to look at that in more detail to see what kind of support to provide.

The person in charge of supporting disabled children and those with additional needs is called the SENDCO. They may be listed on the school's website or you can message the school and ask to speak to them.  You could also talk to your child's current teacher about what to do next.

  • Thanks for reply. The assessment was done by Healios and they confirmed ''meet the criteria for a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (Diagnostic Statistical Manual 5th Edition (DSM-5)).'' We have a call with Healios next week.  As this is not a diagnosis should we do anything else to get confirmation? Please advise.

In terms of ECHP will give try and see how things will go based on the Assessment report.

I am struggling in terms of finding schools that are good or suitable for ASD DMS5 children in the England Berkshire area. Any suggestion on where to start?

    Thank you
