Hi, my son says the classroom is too noisy but he refuses to wear ear defenders or earplugs as he says they don’t work. I’m finding it difficult to try and help him with this situation if he won’t wear them. Anyone else had this issue?
Is what he's looking for noise reduction or actual silence? Also something that might be helpful to point out is that ear defenders vary on the decibel (db) reduction, some cut out more sound than others. If you buy them online you have to read the description on what the reduction level you can expect from a certain product is.
The teachers tried him with ear defenders and the ear plugs and he said they didn’t work. I said you still have to be able to hear the teachers. Think he would like total silence to be honest. I didn’t realise they were all different so need to have a look at some that cancel out quiet a bit of noise.
HI, I'm not sure if this would be appropriate in a clasroom situation but I used ear defenders with a built in radio while at work. Noise cancelling ear defender are also available.
Tbh I use a high reduction pair of industrial ear defenders, it will only let through a quieter version of if someone is screaming their lungs out at me, any regular or quiet talk to me and I don't hear so I have to forewarn people if they want my attention to tell me something wave their hand in front of my face and I'll take them off to talk and put them back on afterwards. It's not the end of all communication it just shifts it into specific focused periods of time.
I can always ask. If it gets him to school I’m happy to suggest anything at this point
