My son says ear defenders or ear plugs don’t work.

Is what he's looking for noise reduction or actual silence?

Also something that might be helpful to point out is that ear defenders vary on the decibel (db) reduction, some cut out more sound than others.

If you buy them online you have to read the description on what the reduction level you can expect from a certain product is.

Tbh I use a high reduction pair of industrial ear defenders, it will only let through a quieter version of if someone is screaming their lungs out at me, any regular or quiet talk to me and I don't hear so I have to forewarn people if they want my attention to tell me something wave their hand in front of my face and I'll take them off to talk and put them back on afterwards. It's not the end of all communication it just shifts it into specific focused periods of time.

HI, I'm not sure if this would be appropriate in a clasroom situation but I used ear defenders with a built in radio while at work. Noise cancelling ear defender are also available.
