What now?

My 9 year old son has recently been diagnosed with autism. I have fought for 3 years for him to be seen. Now that we have had the diagnosis I feel as if they have just sent us on out way to navigate everything ourselves. I have looked online, which is how I came across this page. My son is struggling to come to terms with autism and what it means for him. I have tried explaining that he is still the same wonderful person he has always been but I feel that it would be beneficial to get help from organisations or even clubs where he could meet children and people that may understand him a little more. I am in the glasgow area. If anyone has any information or knows of anyone I can contact it would be a great help. Thankyou for taking the time to read.

  • Hi, that's exactly how I felt (still feel) after my daughter was diagnosed. It's like theres just nothing. A few websites and helplines (but the helplines just refer you to websites). The only help there seems to be after diagnosis is slightly more understanding from people at school and stuff, which helps but doesn't help also. I'm a newbie here but I'm a listening ear, feel free to get in touch anytime, not sure if I could say much to help but just having people understand can help.
