My daughter is just finishing Year 9. She is in a mainstream school in South Devon nr Exeter and massively struggling. She has been with CAMHS for over a year but it feels that this is just supporting her mental health to a stable'ish' level until we get her into the right school.
We have applied for an EHCP with a whole list of diagnosis (including ASD, SPD, APD, OCD, Severe Anxiety) and a recommendation by the Educational Psychologist that an EHCP be issued but the LA refused to issue an EHCP. Our tribunal appeal date has been set for January 2023!!!
We applied to two private schools (as they had up to 10 people in the whole year which would have reduced my daughter's sensory overload) but they would not take her as they could not meet her needs.
All the specialist schools I can see in the area require an EHCP.
Our concern in putting her into another mainstream is that the same issues will arise.
Home schooling does not work for our daughter. We tried this in lockdown.
Tutoring may help but this is very disjointed and means that I cannot secure any work myself (which I would need for the cost of tutoring without an EHCP).
Are there any other school alternatives that people are aware of?
