hygiene

My six year old, use to love his bath. Now I find it’s very difficult to get him to have one. I manage to wash his hair once or twice a week. Any advice? He won’t get undressed either for bed so unless his clothes are wet he will sleep in them. Sometimes he won’t even change the next day. Again any advice?

  • No advice, but my son is exactly the same. He won't shower and it takes ages to persuade him to get into the bath, we were down to one a week, but it got so fraught that we now take him swimming once a week instead as he will have a shower after swimming. Not sure it was the best thing to do but it has made things less fraught. Bedtime is the same, he'd never change his clothes if I didn't insist, and will often wear the same clothes all weekend as sometimes it's too much to have that battle.

  • Thanks for replying. I know changing clothes and bathing is a common issue with ASD. I will let my son stay in the same clothes rather than have a battle and have him upset all day. With washing we find if we don’t go on at him but just let him finish playing then tell him to come and have a wash , he is more likely to cooperate, He just likes to get it over with quickly now. Not so long ago he’d make his bathtime last as long as he could. Until the water went cold
