Any ideas to stop my 6 year old (nearly 7) swearing. Ive tried ignoring it but it’s just getting worse. I really struggle to put consequences into place as it always end in a meltdown. I know some people say they are just words and sometimes I let do just let it go. What do people suggest please?
Do you want me to tell you the truth from my personal experience sometimes it's environmental factors if someone is swearing around him he could be picking it up and repeating it which is the reason why most people display these behaviours.
It's not really something you can control but you could talk to him nicely and say "Please don't speak like this" it's not respectful. You don't have to patronize him or intimidate in your words but could be calm, cool , collected about it?
I also think it would be an idea every time this happens you could reduce his money, e.g. pocket money
I also think from my having Autism myself there is sadly social inhibition , I absolutely hate sometimes saying the wrong thing but sometimes I don't think I can help it and maybe I might not even know I am doing it at times.
