6 year old swearing

Any ideas to stop my 6 year old (nearly 7) swearing. Ive tried ignoring it but it’s just getting worse. I really struggle to put consequences into place as it always end in a meltdown. I know some people say they are just words and sometimes I let do just let it go. What do people suggest please?

  • Micheal McIntyre did a great sketch on how any word can be used in place of "drunk". It's a good sketch! "I'm absolutely car parked!" "Completely gazebo'd" - something like this. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1119454918243178

And then there's the classic understanding any word can be put after 'complete' or 'absolute' and really have a nice effect. Absolute rug. Complete teapot.

Incorporate a few into your daily life while they're in ear shot. It can take a minute to explore if you're not used to it. John Cleese was quite good at it as well. The more interesting and clever, the more desirable they'll find it. You may have to 'stage' it a few times... But see how the sound 'feels' as well. If it just feels fun to swear with. It's always easier to simply give them something more appealing and useful than try and curb what they've been exposed to.
