I have a question.

I have a question.

My son, who is now 13yrs old and really struggling at School. He is now in year 8 secondary school, we are currently going through CAMHS and SEN.

My question is, when he was at primary school he was identified in yr 5&6 has needing additional educational support with reading, spelling & writing. Primary school implemented special educational needs record/individual education plan highlighting these learning needs.

Should this information have followed my son from primary school into secondary, and more importantly should secondary school of auctioned support from special educational needs record/individual education plan passed from his primary school.

I have found out for the first yr in secondary school he has not been receiving any additional support, things have deteriorated drastically.

  • Thanks for the reply.

Yes we have got the IEP's from primary school, recently photocopied them and gave them to school. Nothing has been said from school, as to whether they already had them or not. But i think from their silence they have had them since day one.

Yes, like you we have started our filing system.

We are intouch with parent partnership in our area, would they be able to advise me on secondray schools implamenting primary schools IEP's.

We feel really let down by school.

  • Thanks for the reply's, below is copies of e-mail sent from me to school & e-mail recieved reply from SENCO.

    Hi Miss ,

I received a copy of EP latest assessment report on J, it appears a detailed report about some of J's difficulties.
Also spoke to EP yesterday to discuss the report, which was helpful.
In line with primary school's IEP's forwarded to secondary to continue with J's learning needs.
Please can you let me have copies of J's year 7 IEP's.
    Thanks
    J

    Hi J

At secondary schools we do I.P’s (individual profiles) we have only just changed to I.E.P.’S and as you know J’s was the first in the new format. They are only done for pupils who have a statutory assessment or who are at School action plus of which J was neither of these last year.

    Thanks.

This why i asked the question about IEP followimg him through, would a school action plan(not a school action plus).

What i am going to do is request through the freedom of information act, is request all information relating to my son from his primary school. Along with info that was sent to his secodray school in relation to his learning needs.

I am sure, and i am sure i get the info and back up from this site. That my son should of been still recieving this level of support from primary school into secondary school.

This are so bad at the mo, they are trying to get us to place him in pupil referral unit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What were you expecting ? It is Britain,, obviously a ghetto secondary school. Secondary school autism planning is more necessary because as your childs cognitive mind increases the emotional mind is still undeveloped, so the stress  and anxiety increases 10 fold by the widing gap in mind.

Sorry, but I would get extremely angry with the school as they think JUST BECAUSE YOUR CHILDREN IS GROWING, they think with all NT's that the coping abilities are increasing also at the same time. THAT SCHOOL HAS LET YOU DOWN ! Bordering on criminal constructive trauma for your child. They have put your child under stress and you also.

You need a champion in this situation,, have you tried the local papers  or the local MP.

At least you are lucky you can see your child falling through the net, a lot of parents do not.

Thought comes to mind, can make an appointment with the Headmaster and take a solicator with you. It is the only thing these @%&&** understand.

A womans wrath protecting her child is the best solution always, give it to them !
