University applications

As far as I know it is optional whether or not you wish to disclose any disability on a UCAS application. Once you have been offered and accepted a place, it may be advantageous to make a disclosure to the university. My autistic daughter is at university at present and she has found that accommodations, including extended time in exams, specialised software etc. to have been very useful. She has also been able to alert lecturers that she might ask more questions in greater detail than the average student would, and as she is autistic, for them not to be annoyed by it.

If a person chose not to disclose in an UCAS application, would it come up in the school refetence ? It seems odd the school would not mention it ( there may even be a box to tick) or is it optional for them too?

I expect that any medical matter would be confidential. I don't think that schools would have automatic permission to disclose such things to outside bodies. I know of one student I supervised, who did not disclose his epilepsy at all to the university until it became obvious, when he had a seizure during his finals viva exam.
