University applications

Does anyone know if ASD is a question on UCAS forms and what UK universities do to encourage/ discourage applications from students with ASD?

  • As far as I know it is optional whether or not you wish to disclose any disability on a UCAS application. Once you have been offered and accepted a place, it may be advantageous to make a disclosure to the university. My autistic daughter is at university at present and she has found that accommodations, including extended time in exams, specialised software etc. to have been very useful. She has also been able to alert lecturers that she might ask more questions in greater detail than the average student would, and as she is autistic, for them not to be annoyed by it.
