Nose picking

My 11 year old son has recently started nose picking to the point of making it bleed. He then rubs the blood on the nearest surface; carpet, bed sheet, clothing, wall etc.

He is now complaining his nose is sore which really isn't surprising considering how much his finger is up there!

I have tried to speak to him about it but it makes him really upset and angry.

  1. Any ideas ?

  • I remember reading of a similar situation in another family. It came down to the fact that the child had a really hard time dealing with the senses e.g. tickling sensation in the nose. This child also picked nose until bleeding, which made a sensation that was even harder for him to handle, making his rubbing the nose even worse. Now, it also comes to me that this child was reacting to the stress of the change in the Covid-19 lock down. Any chance you son might be reacting to stress?
