Giving up work / help available

Hi,

My 8 year old son has additional needs and has 1:2:1 help in school during the day.
my partner works full time during the day and I work evenings part time. My partner is finding the evenings hard dealing with our son’s meltdown, hitting or not wanting to do the bedtime routine. We also have 2 other children, 1 older and 1 younger than our 8 year old.

I am considering giving up my evening work to help at home, 2 parents being home on the nights I don’t work is very beneficial to all our children.

I have recently applied for DLA and awaiting their response. I am also aware that I could apply for carers.

has anyone else been in this situation? I’m worried about giving up work and being so much worse off but also know my son needs that 1:2:1 help in the evenings too.

many thanks

  •  wait until u get a response about your DLA. ---- u getting out to work could be your strength in the long run.  Its a really tough decision  as u get older its harder o get work again Disappointed

  • Yes I will do. Received a letter today to say they have received it and looking at all information that’s been sent so that’s good.
It’s hard as I know my son needs that extra support at home in the evenings that 1 parent cannot deal with alone but also it’s so hard giving up work esp in this time with all that’s going on. I could be making things better with our home and family life but worse financially.
thank you for taking the time to reply
