Hi all,
I have only recently joined so I’ll share a little about our situation. My daughter is 11yo and part way through assessments for ASD. It’s been a difficult journey as we only saw the issues at home and school had zero concerns. It was only when I started reading about ASD that I realised masking was a thing. I’ve learned so much about ASD these last two years and my daughter also.
Anyway, I was wondering whether anyone has experience of phobias? My daughter has two phobias that massively impact the quality of life she lives. The first one being dogs. When I say phobia I don’t just mean she’s a little nervous around dogs but rather if we come across a dog in the park she is hysterical and climbing up me to avoid the dog (which is usually across the other side of the park on a lead). If we don’t move away soon enough she will become violent in her fear.
Her second fear is illness especially vomiting. This can either be her being unwell herself or someone nearby being unwell. To explain the scale of this Ill give an example. When my older child was unwell with tummy ache she became incredibly anxious and refused to be in the same floor of the house as him. We slept downstairs as she wouldn’t go upstairs in case he was sick. She was so terrified she couldn’t manage to go upstairs to the toilet and almost wet herself. I had to carry her upstairs where she became violent through fear.
mom school of a child complains of feeling unwell she runs from the room hysterical.
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated
thanks
