school not listening!!!!

Spoke to my 2 lil uns ep today, she phoned to discuss a possible school for Bounce (youngest one!), for some reson she seems more eager to get bounce into a different mainstream school with a asd unit (from the ones I have seen so far I am not impressed!!).

After discussing a fair bit in detail she pointed out that some recommendations have not been taken upon by the school even though they will help Bounce tremendously in mainstream school. After havinga ABC assesment done while he was in nursery some of his triggers were identified. School discussed them with me and we agreed that these should be prevented to avoid any incidents, these didnt happen at all!!!! School actually aggravated them badly and this resulted in Bounce being excluded twice in a matter of weeks. He was put on a re-integration programme which made matters worse and didnt go back to full time till last week of term!!

He is now in reception and to find out that important advice is not being implemented is shocking. They are refusing to have him full time or even till after dinner, he only gets 2hrs and 45 mins in total.  They mentioned 2 weeks before half term that they are going to employ a permanent 1:1 for Bounce so he can go full time but on last day of half term was told he will still be part-time for  weeks into new term and will be reviewed again.

I know now that they are just waiting or his statement to come so he will be moving to a new school and they wont have to deal with him. Knowing that I had a neighbour who's autistic and went to that school and has severe autism and stayed full time and had no issues and that Bounce is not has bad has him makes me severely question what the school is playing at!!!

I am finding it very hard with all the running up and down the school 3 times a day (its a mile and a half away!) and dealing with my other kids whon have s/n and supporting them.

I just dont know which way to turn, with the demands of all my 7 kids and their additional needs (5 with s/n) and getting my youngest 2 statemented and dealing with everyone is just so draining I barely have 5 minutes to sit down and have a drink in peace without having to run around dealing with everyone. I dont have any support at present just need some advice on how to deal with one very frustraing ignorant school!!!!

  • hi again - looks like you're making progress getting Bounce a school - hope it all works out well for him and you.  I'm at a loss to understand why you haven't got a sw.  Their criteria must be pretty restrictive??  If you ever get a bit of time you should pursue that again.  You can get a carer's assessment - ask your GP. In my area it's contracted out to a charity who come to see you.  A carer's assessment should state what you need to continue your caring role - that might force social service's hand.  I hope your foot and ankles improve soon.  I know it's so difficult but look after yourself, including your foot!
